Pick Three - Friday Goodness

instrumenti-4.jpg
I've had some great days and nights of music in my long long life but yesterday ranks right the hell up there. If you had a more excellent day of it, please do tell.

temper trap 2.jpgIn the space of ten hours I saw Frightened Rabbit, Instrumenti, Daniel Martin Moore and Ben Sollee and The Temper Trap. I still can't even believe it myself... can't even believe I had the energy to see that much stuff without passing out. I also haven't shot anything since SXSW last year so the fact that these pictures aren't shots of little blobs with my finger in the frame is pretty much a miracle.

Anyway... yesterday now seems like a distant memory, and there's loads more coming up tonight so here's some choices you might consider for the hours to come...

10.00 pm Muse at Stubb's. This is probably a foolish show to hype because it's going to be bananatown out there. However, I was all about Muse in, err, 1999 and I still have a box of the special edition screwed together copies of Showbiz that Maverick had made... they were supposed to come with a little screwdriver but the screwdrivers didn't make it though customs so you basically had this beautifully packaged CD that couldn't be opened. Anyway, I've never seen them live so maybe tonight's the night.

10.10 pm on... Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal, Tig Notaro, Todd Barry, Kevin Avery and Margaret Cho at Esther's Follies. It is time, fine people, to bring on the funny. I still talk about what an insanely good time I had at last year's comedy showcases and that's saying something because generally speaking I kill fun.

12.15 am Surfer Blood at Lustre Pearl. I kind of like this venue and they provided the stage for the magic that was The Temper Trap last night. I've been enjoying SB's Astro Coast quite a lot lately. I'm hoping lightning will strike twice here.

And that's the haps for today. I'll be back later with a handy dandy guide to all the LPQ/Pick Threes from this year... that's super useful, I know, now that it's Friday. In the meantime, you can read it all here.

Tell us all about it on Twitter @sxsw and @mspark.

Open it up, lp
