Pick Three - Justin and Jonathan Eshak

eshak.jpg

Brothers Justin and Jonathan Eshak bring their enthusiasm for the managerial arts to Brooklyn's Mick Management, a company that represents John Mayer, Ray Lamontagne, Brett Dennen, The Walkmen, Natalie Merchant (my first girl crush), Erin McCarley and Rocco Deluca.

Of that illustrious roster only The Walkmen bring their fine wares to these here shores.

The former Texans spent their childhood in Houston contemplating Hakeem Olajuwon's dream shakes and graduating from the same high school as Austin favorite Lyle Lovett.

The adorable lads graciously sent me their very own...

Pick Three
Justin (the one on the right)
Generationals : I saw them play in Brooklyn last year and loved everything about the band. They remind me a lot of those late 80s/early 90s alterna-rock bands like James and Ocean Blue you'd see on 120 Minutes all-the-time. Plus, you can't go wrong with an act that lists Prefab Sprout as one of their main influences.

The Walkmen: Obviously biased but watching the band at Stubb's will be a lot of fun. I think Hamilton had some issues with the law last time he was in Austin for playing a hotel piano. I suppose Austin cops don't respond well to guys named Hamilton.

Hudson Mohawke: Haven't heard a note but any band that references Bruce Willis' second best film is okay by me. Can a man get a cup of coffee?

Jonathan (the one on the left)
The Walkmen: New album coming shortly and this is the public's first chance to see/hear new material live. Add to that a great NPR lineup (Spoon, Broken Bells, Sharon Jones etc.) in Austin's best venue and it should be a fun night.

Brazos : Always rooting for the locals and believe Brazos have made a great record for a national audience. Solid lineup at Emo's Annex that Thursday night as well with the addition of Australia's Oh Mercy. In all honesty, you'll probably see me at Evan Dando inappropriately requesting 'Buddy' at his 1am Ale House performance.

Everything Everything: I'm enjoying many of the northern Englishand Scottish bands right now such as Wild Beasts and Frightened Rabbit. I'll add Everything Everything to that list. Scottish Arts Council showcase conflicts with NPR show, so this will suffice.

So, I'm not entirely sure but I think the Eshaks want you to go see The Walkmen. I second that emotion on Frightened Rabbit. Also, I can't believe Justin picked a band whose name is actually a #bandmoviemashup. I finally had to quit the game I started because, err, I got cool peeps like these brothers to write about.

I'll be back tomorrow with more of the goods including an LPQ with Miles Kurosky and P3 with Interscope's very own Louie Bandak. In the meantime, if you're not sitting around staring into space listening to Big Country like me, you can read more here.
